The Boy Behind the iServe Bag Design
A collaborative effort between iServe and Rainbow Centre

The iServe Bag was first presented to invited guests at the iServe Launch
Ceremony on the 10th September 2009 at the Civil Service College. The bag was well received, with the sunflower design commended positively by many of our partners and guests.

The designer of the iServe Bag, Amit Singh, is a 12 years old boy with
autism and has been attending Rainbow Centre’s Margaret Drive School since 2004. A social, artistic and athletic boy, Amit participates actively in
various co-curricular activities like batik painting, baking and the
Special Olympics, winning Silver in the Bocce event in the 2009 Singapore Special Olympics. His other interests include swimming, exploring the worldwide web through search engines and interacting with his friends. He is popular with his peers, is independent and responsible and is given leadership roles in his class. Lacking in clarity in his speech, Amit
communicates through writing, gestures, and vocalizations and through art.

The iServe Project Team had collaborated with Rainbow Centre for their students to come up with a sunflower design that matches the iServe logo and colours. We were truly amazed by the well-done designs done by the talented students from Rainbow Centre, which gave us a serious headache in the selection. At the end, Amit’s detailed illustration of a single stalk of sunflower was selected for the vibrant colours used in the design - sunflower yellow and maroon, which fit in exactly with iServe’s colours.

iServe is grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with Rainbow Centre to showcase the artistic talent of its student.
